Columbus, OH--Clean Fuels Ohio will conduct a public launch of the new Ohio Green Fleets program on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 1 p.m. at the Whittier Peninsula, 395 W. Whittier Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215. Walter Kovalick, Acting Deputy Regional Administrator US EPA and Chris Korleski, Director of the Ohio EPA will be featured speakers at the kick-off.  The media event will also feature almost two dozen fleet vehicles with installed technology representing different aspects of Clean Diesel technology, information tables highlighting the program partners, and the unveiling of the program logo and rating system.

“The EPA is most supportive of partnering efforts in Ohio to enable those ready to act to reduce fuel usage and pollution from mobile sources,” Kovalick stated.

Ohio Green Fleets is designed to significantly improve the environmental performance of business and government vehicle fleets across Ohio through diesel cleanup and other strategies. The program is composed of three core components:

1) Working with fleet managers to develop a Green Fleet policy tailored to their specific needs.

2) Hands on support and assistance in implementing the policy

3) The development of a statewide rating system

The program is presented with grant support from the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority-Ohio Energy Office and the Ohio Environmental Education Fund. Program partners include the Ohio EPA, US EPA SmartWay, City of Columbus Fleet Management, Earth Day Coalition, Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Ohio Environmental Council, Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, and others.
