What We Are

Clean Fuels Ohio is a member of Clean Cities and is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the use of cleaner, domestic fuels and efficient vehicles to the transportation industry, government, and the general public.  Through programs like Ohio Green Fleets, we provide technical support to transportation professionals, advocate for sustainable transportation energy policies, and serve as a resource clearinghouse

Sam Spofforth,  Executive Director

Sam Spofforth has served as Executive Director of Clean Fuels Ohio since the organization’s founding in 2002. Under Spofforth’s leadership, Clean Fuels Ohio has become the “go to” resource in Ohio for cleaner fuels, vehicles and energy-saving transportation technologies that reduce pollution, increase American energy security and strengthen Ohio’s economy.  Spofforth was named the U.S. Department of Energy’s national Clean Cities Coordinator of the Year in 2007 and Midwest Clean Cities Coordinator of the Year in 2004. He is President of Transportation Energy Partners, a national non-profit that serves as an umbrella organization for many of the nation's 80+ Clean Cities coalitions and educates policy makers and others on transportation energy issues. He serves on the Ohio Environmental Education Fund Advisory Council and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman “Green Team,” among other groups. Spofforth holds a Bachelor’s degree from Hiram College and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

Andrew Conley,  Program Director

Andrew Conley oversees the day to day management of the Ohio Green Fleets program for Clean Fuels Ohio, working to help fleets reduce harmful vehicle emissions and petroleum dependence, helping fleets secure project funding, and designating fleets who are leaders in deploying green technologies and practices. Since he joined the Clean Fuels Ohio staff in November 2008, he has worked to develop both the public policy and Ohio Green Fleets programs for Clean Fuels Ohio. Conley previously coordinated Corps Development for City Year Columbus, where he was charged with administering programs for 38 diverse AmeriCorps members. Conley holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in History and Comparative Religious Studies from Wright State University.

Cynthia Maves,  Director of Grant Administration

Cynthia Maves oversees grant administration of more than $14 million in funding from the U.S. Dept. of Energy, U.S. EPA and Ohio Dept. of Transportation. Maves leads project development for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. Maves also leads the marketing campaigns for CFO’s Recovery Act projects and Ohio’s electric vehicle readiness initiative. Prior to joining Clean Fuels Ohio, Maves worked as a consultant for a solar energy firm and as an attorney with the State Medical Board of Ohio.  While serving as a director of a community bank in Indiana, Maves led the effort to build the first LEED-certified bank branch in Indiana. Maves serves on the board of the Friends of COSI. She graduated with a B.A. from DePauw University and a J.D. from Indiana University at Bloomington.

Dr. Jerry Hutton,  Director Gaseous Fuels Transportation Partnership

Dr. Jerrold L. Hutton, former member of the CFO Board of Directors, joined the Clean Fuels Ohio staff in autumn of 2011. Dr. Hutton has previous worked as the Dean of Hocking College’s Logan Ohio Campus where he was responsible for the construction of this USGBC LEED Platinum facility and management of all aspects of the Hocking College Energy Institute. From 1990 through 2003, Jerrold worked internationally for various companies as a sales engineer travelling to South America, Mexico, the Pacific Rim, and Europe. He has presented articles with such distinguished organizations as Society of Automotive Engineers, Natural Gas America, American Gas Association, BIT Bio Energy Associations, International Natural Gas Vehicle Group, the Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition, and Green Energy Ohio.  He holds a B.S. from Weber State University in Automotive Engineering and Technology, a Master of Education degree from Ohio University in College Technical Education, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Capella University.

Jason Phillips, Policy Director 

Jason Phillips joined Clean Fuels Ohio in July, 2012 as Policy Director.  He is responsible for working with officials at the Federal, State and Local levels as well as with stakeholders to create sound policy regarding alternative transportation fuels.  Prior to joining Clean Fuels Ohio, he worked on Capitol Square for over 14 years.  Phillips graduated from Ohio State University in 1997 with a B.A. in Political Science.

Pete Johnsen,  Administration and Finance Associate

Pete Johnsen is responsible for coordinating accounting, IT, and other administrative needs for CFO. Johnsen has extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, including 12 years as a staff member with the Ohio Environmental Council and service as past Vice President for Forty Plus of Central Ohio. Johnsen currently serves on the board for EarthShare Ohio. Johnsen holds a B.A. in Geography from Miami University and an M.S. in Environmental Studies from Ohio University.

Beth Lamb,  Communications and Program Manager

Beth Lamb joined the Clean Fuels Ohio team in June 2011 as a program coordinator for the Ohio Green Fleets Program. She assists with program outreach, events, and ongoing social network development. Her previous experience included work within the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Office of Communication, focusing on social network development, media relations, event planning and design work. She also worked at The Ohio State University, College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in the Office of Prospective Student Services. A 2009 graduate of The Ohio State University, Beth holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Agricultural Communication.

Megan Stein,  Grants Manager

Megan Stein joined the Clean Fuels Ohio team in January 2010 as a Program Coordinator for the Department of Energy Clean Cities project—the Ohio Advanced Transportation Partnership. Stein’s previous experience includes work with two non-profit environmental advocacy organizations. With the Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW), she worked on education, outreach and the development of volunteer activities aimed at keeping the Olentangy River and tributaries clean and safe. At The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC), she participated in the Diesel Emission Reduction grant project. A 2009 graduate of Otterbein College, Stein holds a BA degree in Sociology, with a focus on environment and sustainability issues.

Charlene Brenner,  Grants Coordinator

Charlene Brenner joined the Clean Fuels Ohio (CFO) team in 2011 as a Grants Coordinator providing grant administration support and assisting CFO’s many grant funders and partners. She is instrumental in organizational grants development and has worked extensively with Maves on CFO’s Drive Electric Ohio electric vehicle readiness and planning initiative. Brenner’s previous experience includes work with the Supreme Court of Ohio where her research focused on a variety of legal issues pending before the Court. She graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Kenyon College and also earned a J.D. from The Ohio State University.

Lucas DuSablon,  Development Coordinator

Lucas joined the Clean Fuels Ohio staff in the summer of 2011 as a Program Assistant through CFO's Student Internship Program, assisting former Development Director Jill Herbst in her day to day efforts. He currently is responsible for implementing the overall development strategy for CFO which includes overseeing membership, outreach and fundraising efforts. Dale Arnold, Chair Contact Dale Arnold has been Director of Energy Services for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation since 1995. Dale represents farm, small business and residential energy consumers on Customer Choice Advisory Boards with American Electric Power, Columbia Gas, and Vectren. He has participated in several Public Utilities Commission of Ohio working groups concerning electric infrastructure and gas pipelines. Dale currently serves as a member of both the Ohio Department of Development’s (ODOD) Wind Working Group and Biomass Task Force, participates in the Ohio Consumers Counsel Low Income Consumer Advocacy Group, and serves as a board member of Green Energy Ohio and the Ohio Energy Project. In 2002, Governor Bob Taft appointed Dale to the State of Ohio Public Benefits Advisory Board. The Board governs the Partial Income Payment Program (PIPP), that helps low income customers control their energy costs. In 2007, Governor Ted Strickland reappointed Dale to the board, and he now serves as chairman.

Mary McCarronContact Mary McCarron has been involved with Clean Fuels Ohio since 2001 and is dedicated to promoting the wide-spread use of alternative fuels. Mary has promoted renewable energy and energy efficiency to Ohio's schools as the EnergySmart Schools Coordinator with Ohio Energy Project. She is currently the Public Involvement Manager at Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and fills state vehicles with E85 whenever she gets a chance. Mary has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education and Communication from the Ohio State University. Mary currently serves on the CFO board of directors.

Kathleen Burke Kathleen Burke is currently a Senior Account Manager with Ferrellgas Propane. Her responsibilities include: growing and maintaining industrial, commercial, and residential market share within the Ohio Valley Region; mentoring new Account Managers throughout the organization; and developing new markets for the use of propane as an alternative fuel source. In 1998, Kathleen entered the propane industry at Ferrellgas. As an eleven year veteran, she has achieved the President’s Club Award (top three national Account Managers) ten times, and is ranked first in all measurable sales categories at Ferrellgas currently and for the last seven years. Kathleen has recently focused on the promotion of propane as an alternative engine fuel, reducing carbon footprints, and providing a lower cost per gallon fuel for the fleet industry.

Bill Burns Bill Burns has 26 years of fleet management experience, serving the past four as Fleet Operations Manager for the City of Columbus. In this role, Bill oversees the work of 120 fleet employees and the operations of over 6200 vehicles. Bill has also been an advocate for many of the city’s green initiatives, including implementing the first anti-idling policy and the development of the city’s first comprehensive green fleet policy that includes the use of biodiesel, E85, hybrids, and CNG. Bill is the 2008 recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Excellence for Outstanding Job Performance for his oversight work of the city’s $27 million fleet facility that encompasses many green energy concepts.

Bill Schottenstein Mr. Schottenstein, a native of Columbus, graduated with honors from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce of the University of Pennsylvania. He attended New York University Law School and graduated from The Ohio State University College or Law. A member of the New York Bar, he practiced with the firm Otterbourg Steindler Houston and Rosen and the firm of Burns Jackson Miller Summit and Spitzer, both in New York City, before forming Arshot investment Corporation in 1982.  Arshot Investment Corporation and its affiliate, Lion Real Estate Services, engages in activities which include real estate development, investment, management, construction and leasing. Arshot and its affiliates conduct a wide range of real estate activities involving high-end commercial, residential, office and industrial development.

Graham Bailey Graham Bailey has been employed with Vectren Corporation for four years, holding multiple positions within the marketing and sales department. As account manager of economic development, he works with local, regional and state economic development organizations in both Indiana and Ohio. Bailey works with both Indiana and Ohio to develop and secure revenue/margin growth opportunities by encouraging the attraction and retention of major industrial customers, through the execution of Vectren’s economic development strategy.Bailey earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Laura Koprowski Laura Koprowski serves as Director of Public and Government Affairs for the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC). In this role, Laura oversees advocating MORPC’s policy agenda and objectives, including the development of effective methods to enhance the organization’s visibility and image among internal and external stakeholders, MORPC membership, the media, policymakers, and the public at large. She also serves as the lead staff member for MORPC’s Regional Policy Roundtable, which has a membership of diverse interests and representation of the central Ohio region including local governments, businesses, non-profits, and citizens and provides a strong voice on policy and legislative matters. Laura actively participates in several community and professional groups including Columbus Metropolitan Club, Sustainable Grandview, Columbus Partnership’s Federal Funds Committee, Mid-Ohio Development Exchange (MODE), Central Ohio Public Information Network (COPIN), Ohio Association of Regional Councils, and Grandview Heights PTO.

Steve Lindsay   Steve Lindsay, of Lindsay Automotive/CNG Trans in Columbus, Ohio is a champion for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), promoting the four fundamental benefits: Cleaner, Domestic Jobs, Reduced Foreign Oil, and Monetary Savings. Mr. Lindsay's business background includes real estate, start ups, and is currently Ohio's largest single point automobile dealer (All Brands). With an extensive background in automotive, he has seen the sacrifices fleets and consumers have made to allow for higher and higher fuel costs, and views CNG as the only viable alternative fuel in the transportation sector. Additionally, Mr. Lindsay currently serves on the Clean Fuels Ohio Board, the Columbus 2020 Regional Energy Advisory Committee and uses CNG for daily transportation

Lou Luedtke,Treasurer Lou combines more than 35 years of specialized engineering skills and knowledge about advanced technologies with innovative business leadership expertise, skills he is putting to use in a new venture called BerryHill Partners LLC. BerryHill, a technology development company, allows Lou to cross industry boundaries and work in a variety of sectors including composites, advanced and renewable energy. In his previous position as CEO and President of the National Composite Center (NCC), Lou established the Center as a quick commercialization agent, manufacturing accelerator, and business incubator for the advanced materials industry. In 1999, Lou was selected to take NCC from the role of research and development to active commercialization of new production level composite manufacturing process and products. Today, Lou’s vision and efforts are focused on continuing to advance the establishment of breakthrough technologies that have the capability to nurture long term growth for Ohio.

Bill McGlinchey, Secretary Bill McGlinchey has over 40 years of technical automotive experience, the last 25 of which have been dedicated to alternative fuels. His background is in training and teaching and most recently, he has focused on alternative fuels curriculum development and grant writing. He retired from West Virginia University’s National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium in June of 2002. He has since formed his own consulting company, AFV International, LLC, and began offering alternative fuel services internationally as the United States. He has completed assignments abroad with the DOE’s Clean Cities International program and authored his third book on alternative fuels, a study guide for CNG technicians. While serving on the American Gas Association’s original NGV-3 task force, Bill helped to establish automotive conversion system standards. More recently, Bill lent his expertise to the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition’s NGV-2 Taskforce on cylinder inspection protocols. He also serves with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to help develop alternative fuel technician and training program certification and has numerous published articles and papers.

Jim Durand Dr. Durand is a Research Specialist at The Ohio State University Center for Automotive Research. He is an expert in the design, modeling and optimization of energy systems and has over 30 years of industrial and academic experience with a focus on alternative energy and automotive systems. Dr. Durand also has a strong background in policy with a degree in Technology & Policy from MIT, as well as practical policy experience in a state solar office in the early 1980s, and a public utility commission in the late 1980s. Dr. Durand has also been involved in numerous startups. For example, he was a key member of a engineering startup  company which began with 2 employees and built up to a $5M business with 50 employees. When he left, Dr. Durand was the manager of the marketing department. Recently, Dr. Durand has led the startup of an engineering program at a small woman’s college (Sweet Briar College), and has led a team of women engineering students in the design and construction of a water development project in a remote region of Guatemala. Dr. Durand has also led the startup of a multidisciplinary program at the University of Virginia to design and build conversions of conventional cars to electric drive. At CAR, Dr. Durand is leading the effort to increase CAR’s testing and engineering services business, and is also involved in preparing research proposals and assisting in commercializing new technologies developed by CAR.

Dr. Andrew Rezin Dr. Rezin earned a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in Education. His primary area of academic research has been focused on industry partnerships with education and their impact on career success of graduates. Andy has served as a Department Chair at Columbus State Community College in Columbus Ohio for the past 16 years with his scope of responsibility growing over time to his present department, Automotive & Applied Technologies, which houses four separate disciplines and serves more than 1,800 students annually. Prior to his service at Columbus State, Dr. Rezin spent six years in corporate and 14 years in dealership service management, a background that encompasses experience for auto manufacturers, local dealerships, and automotive education. An accomplished presenter, Andy presents annually at national and international educational conferences on such diverse topics as change, leadership, and the importance of industry partnerships. He has worked to build and develop a service management curriculum to help meet the need of automotive service education. In 2009, his text, “Service Management: Principles into Practice” was published by Prentice-Hall.

Richard Smith Richard Smith III retired in 2009 from his position as Executive Vice President of NetJets Aviation, Inc. after 31 years of service. At the time of his retirement Richard was advising the Office of the Chairman on the company’s flight operations, security, and maintenance activities. During his time with NetJets, Richard served as a Line Pilot, Director of Pilot Training, Director of Flight Operations, and Columbus Base Manager prior to become Executive Vice President in 1991. As Executive VP, Richard oversaw NetJets’ Columbus operations, achieving 30% growth per year for at least five consecutive years. Richard also assisted in establishing NetJets’ Climate Initiative and coordinated the company’s central Ohio philanthropic activities.

Doyle Sumrall Doyle Sumrall is the Senior Director of Business Development at the National Truck Equipment Corp. He has served as the Vice President of Operations at STAHL and as the Director of Engineering & Operations at Waltco Truck Equipment Company. With a background in engineering and career dedicated to trucking, Doyle's expertise spans the intricacies of the industry.

Adam Ward Adam Ward is the Executive Director of the Ohio Soybean Association and Director of Marketing and Outreach for the Ohio Soybean Council. Ward oversees the grassroots membership activities of the Association, which includes, but is not limited to, member communications, lobbying, and fundraising. For the Ohio Soybean Council, Ward oversees projects relating to the domestic utilization of soybeans. Among those in Ward's portfolio - biodiesel, bio-based product, and livestock production promotional programs. Prior to joining Ohio Soybean, Ward served as Assistant to the Energy Advisor at the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority and Director of Legislative Affairs for the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Ward is a graduate of Capital University.

Charlene Brenner, Grants Coordinator

Charlene began her involvement with Clean Fuels Ohio as a volunteer in 2011 and has since joined the full time staff. Her duties primarily involve support for grant administration and assisting our many grant funders and partners. Lucas DuSablon, Development Coordinator

Lucas joined the Clean Fuels Ohio staff in the summer of 2011 as a Program Assistant through CFO's Student Internship Program, assisting former Development Director Jill Herbst in her day to day efforts. He currently is responsible for implementing the overall development strategy for CFO which includes overseeing membership, outreach and fundraising efforts. Mary McCarron, Chair Contact Mary McCarron has been involved with Clean Fuels Ohio since 2001 and is dedicated to promoting the wide-spread use of alternative fuels. Mary has promoted renewable energy and energy efficiency to Ohio's schools as the EnergySmart Schools Coordinator with Ohio Energy Project. She is currently the Public Involvement Manager at Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and fills state vehicles with E85 whenever she gets a chance. Mary has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education and Communication from the Ohio State University. Mary currently serves on the CFO board of directors.

Dale Arnold, Secretary Contact Dale Arnold has been Director of Energy Services for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation since 1995. Dale represents farm, small business and residential energy consumers on Customer Choice Advisory Boards with American Electric Power, Columbia Gas, and Vectren. He has participated in several Public Utilities Commission of Ohio working groups concerning electric infrastructure and gas pipelines. Dale currently serves as a member of both the Ohio Department of Development’s (ODOD) Wind Working Group and Biomass Task Force, participates in the Ohio Consumers Counsel Low Income Consumer Advocacy Group, and serves as a board member of Green Energy Ohio and the Ohio Energy Project. In 2002, Governor Bob Taft appointed Dale to the State of Ohio Public Benefits Advisory Board. The Board governs the Partial Income Payment Program (PIPP), that helps low income customers control their energy costs. In 2007, Governor Ted Strickland reappointed Dale to the board, and he now serves as chairman.

Kathleen Burke Kathleen Burke is currently a Senior Account Manager with Ferrellgas Propane. Her responsibilities include: growing and maintaining industrial, commercial, and residential market share within the Ohio Valley Region; mentoring new Account Managers throughout the organization; and developing new markets for the use of propane as an alternative fuel source. In 1998, Kathleen entered the propane industry at Ferrellgas. As an eleven year veteran, she has achieved the President’s Club Award (top three national Account Managers) ten times, and is ranked first in all measurable sales categories at Ferrellgas currently and for the last seven years. Kathleen has recently focused on the promotion of propane as an alternative engine fuel, reducing carbon footprints, and providing a lower cost per gallon fuel for the fleet industry.

Bill Burns Bill Burns has 26 years of fleet management experience, serving the past four as Fleet Operations Manager for the City of Columbus. In this role, Bill oversees the work of 120 fleet employees and the operations of over 6200 vehicles. Bill has also been an advocate for many of the city’s green initiatives, including implementing the first anti-idling policy and the development of the city’s first comprehensive green fleet policy that includes the use of biodiesel, E85, hybrids, and CNG. Bill is the 2008 recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Excellence for Outstanding Job Performance for his oversight work of the city’s $27 million fleet facility that encompasses many green energy concepts.

Ed Canter Ed Canter started working at Englefield Oil Company in 1980 as a Fuel Truck Driver. Since that time, he has held the positions of Sales, Fuel Manager, and currently serves as the Vice President in charge of Lube and Fuel Sales including six unattended fleet fueling Sites. In the past few years, Ed had a vision to add biodiesel to commercial fueling locations. This was a new concept that had not been utilized in the state of Ohio. Recently, the first of these stations opened, offering alternative fuels to commercial fleets and the general public. Ed has been an active supporter of CFO efforts to educate fleet managers and others about the benefits of using biodiesel fuel.

Randy Cech Randy Cech is currently the Senior Account Manager of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio. Randy, an Ohio native, has been actively involved with Clean Fuels Ohio since he first suggested Vectren become members in October 2009. Concurrently, he is active with the Washington D.C. based Energy Solutions Center (ESC) and their Natural Gas Vehicle workgroup. He has been working with dozens of other utility professionals throughout North America in advancing Natural Gas Vehicles. Randy is excited that the current economic case for NGVs is very strong. Prior to joining Vectren, Randy served as national sales manager for a number of companies. Throughout his career he has worked with pioneering new markets and introducing efficient technologies. Currently, Randy is on the Board of Directors of Camp Graham, a 4-H facility in Clarksville OH. Previously, he served on the manufacturers’ council for the Energy Solutions Center. Randy has worked in a number of professional training and development organizations in marketing, leadership and organizational development and as a facilitator of programs.

Laura Koprowski Laura Koprowski serves as Director of Public and Government Affairs for the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC). In this role, Laura oversees advocating MORPC’s policy agenda and objectives, including the development of effective methods to enhance the organization’s visibility and image among internal and external stakeholders, MORPC membership, the media, policymakers, and the public at large. She also serves as the lead staff member for MORPC’s Regional Policy Roundtable, which has a membership of diverse interests and representation of the central Ohio region including local governments, businesses, non-profits, and citizens and provides a strong voice on policy and legislative matters. Laura actively participates in several community and professional groups including Columbus Metropolitan Club, Sustainable Grandview, Columbus Partnership’s Federal Funds Committee, Mid-Ohio Development Exchange (MODE), Central Ohio Public Information Network (COPIN), Ohio Association of Regional Councils, and Grandview Heights PTO.

Steve Lindsay

Lou Luedtke Lou combines more than 35 years of specialized engineering skills and knowledge about advanced technologies with innovative business leadership expertise, skills he is putting to use in a new venture called BerryHill Partners LLC. BerryHill, a technology development company, allows Lou to cross industry boundaries and work in a variety of sectors including composites, advanced and renewable energy. In his previous position as CEO and President of the National Composite Center (NCC), Lou established the Center as a quick commercialization agent, manufacturing accelerator, and business incubator for the advanced materials industry. In 1999, Lou was selected to take NCC from the role of research and development to active commercialization of new production level composite manufacturing process and products. Today, Lou’s vision and efforts are focused on continuing to advance the establishment of breakthrough technologies that have the capability to nurture long term growth for Ohio.

Bill McGlinchey Bill McGlinchey has over 40 years of technical automotive experience, the last 25 of which have been dedicated to alternative fuels. His background is in training and teaching and most recently, he has focused on alternative fuels curriculum development and grant writing. He retired from West Virginia University’s National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium in June of 2002. He has since formed his own consulting company, AFV International, LLC, and began offering alternative fuel services internationally as the United States. He has completed assignments abroad with the DOE’s Clean Cities International program and authored his third book on alternative fuels, a study guide for CNG technicians. While serving on the American Gas Association’s original NGV-3 task force, Bill helped to establish automotive conversion system standards. More recently, Bill lent his expertise to the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition’s NGV-2 Taskforce on cylinder inspection protocols. He also serves with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to help develop alternative fuel technician and training program certification and has numerous published articles and papers.

Dr. Shawn Midlam-Mohler Dr. Shawn Midlam-Mohler is a research scientist at the Ohio State University Center for Automotive Research and an Adjunct Assistant Professor within the Ohio State University Mechanical Engineering Department. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Ohio State University in 2005 and has conducted research in the automotive field since 1999. Dr. Midlam-Mohler’s research interests broadly include the field of sustainable energy with a focus on the transportation sector. Specific interests include alternative fuels, high efficiency combustion, emissions control, and hybrid electric powertrains. In addition to conducting funded research with industry, Dr. Midlam-Mohler is a co-advisor for the Ohio State EcoCAR Challenge hybrid electric vehicle team. Dr. Midlam-Mohler also teaches courses in the Mechanical Engineering Department in his areas of expertise.

Dr. Andrew Rezin Dr. Rezin earned a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in Education. His primary area of academic research has been focused on industry partnerships with education and their impact on career success of graduates. Andy has served as a Department Chair at Columbus State Community College in Columbus Ohio for the past 16 years with his scope of responsibility growing over time to his present department, Automotive & Applied Technologies, which houses four separate disciplines and serves more than 1,800 students annually. Prior to his service at Columbus State, Dr. Rezin spent six years in corporate and 14 years in dealership service management, a background that encompasses experience for auto manufacturers, local dealerships, and automotive education. An accomplished presenter, Andy presents annually at national and international educational conferences on such diverse topics as change, leadership, and the importance of industry partnerships. He has worked to build and develop a service management curriculum to help meet the need of automotive service education. In 2009, his text, “Service Management: Principles into Practice” was published by Prentice-Hall.

Richard Smith Richard Smith III retired in 2009 from his position as Executive Vice President of NetJets Aviation, Inc. after 31 years of service. At the time of his retirement Richard was advising the Office of the Chairman on the company’s flight operations, security, and maintenance activities. During his time with NetJets, Richard served as a Line Pilot, Director of Pilot Training, Director of Flight Operations, and Columbus Base Manager prior to become Executive Vice President in 1991. As Executive VP, Richard oversaw NetJets’ Columbus operations, achieving 30% growth per year for at least five consecutive years. Richard also assisted in establishing NetJets’ Climate Initiative and coordinated the company’s central Ohio philanthropic activities.

Doyle Sumrall Doyle Sumrall is the Senior Director of Business Development at the National Truck Equipment Corp. He has served as the Vice President of Operations at STAHL and as the Director of Engineering & Operations at Waltco Truck Equipment Company. With a background in engineering and career dedicated to trucking, Doyle's expertise spans the intricacies of the industry.

Adam Ward Adam Ward is the Executive Director of the Ohio Soybean Association and Director of Marketing and Outreach for the Ohio Soybean Council. Ward oversees the grassroots membership activities of the Association, which includes, but is not limited to, member communications, lobbying, and fundraising. For the Ohio Soybean Council, Ward oversees projects relating to the domestic utilization of soybeans. Among those in Ward's portfolio - biodiesel, bio-based product, and livestock production promotional programs. Prior to joining Ohio Soybean, Ward served as Assistant to the Energy Advisor at the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority and Director of Legislative Affairs for the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Ward is a graduate of Capital University.
