Designation as a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleet demonstrates that truly remarkable actions have been taken toward improving a fleet’s overall emissions and efficiency. The fleets achieving a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleets certification have embraced a new transportation paradigm by employing cleaner-burning alternative fuels in the majority of their vehicles.
Certified Fleets:
- Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA)
-
The Greater Dayton RTA has made clear strides to improve its fleet’s overall environmental performance and efficiency. More than a quarter of the RTA’s runs are carried out by 52 electric trolleys; vehicles which completely eliminate petroleum fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions. In addition to electric trolleys, the Dayton RTA currently employs 10 electric hybrid buses and plans to have an additional 10 hybrids operating by October. By November 2010, more than a quarter of the RTA’s remaining diesel bus fleet will be 2007 or newer coaches equipped with the latest emission control systems. The RTA has also begun to size its fleet for greater efficiency, moving to medium duty vehicles for Para-Transit operations. All tolled, these strategies help the RTA reduce nearly 400,000 gallons of fuel annually. Based on these efforts, Clean Fuels Ohio is proud to certify the Dayton RTA as a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleet.
- MedCorp, Inc.
-
With a fleet of more than 100 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, MedCorp currently serves Northwest and Central Ohio as well as parts of Southeast Michigan. MedCorp strives to provide a range of quality medical services to meet community needs. As part of these efforts, MedCorp has converted over 80% of its EMS vehicles to run on propane. The economic and environmental benefits of propane have impressed MedCorp so much that they have created a whole new division, MedCorp Green, which specializes in the distribution and installation of EPA-certified propane conversion systems. Clean Fuels Ohio is proud to certify MedCorp Inc. as a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleet and applauds both their initiative and example.

- Schwan’s Home Service
-
Schwan’s Home Service is a multibillion-dollar company with 18,000 employees that specializes in frozen foods, providing home delivery as well as grocery products. Schwan’s is committed to operating an environmentally sustainable fleet. Ninety-eight percent of the vehicles that Schwan’s operates in Ohio run on dedicated propane fuel systems. Because these vehicles deliver food to homes, the use of cleaner-burning propane fuel helps to promote healthier neighborhoods across Ohio. Schwan’s has long been a leader in implementing alternative fuels, and has also developed its own company, Bi-Phase Technologies, which specializes in the installation of propane fuel systems. Clean Fuels Ohio recognizes these longstanding achievements and is proud to certify Schwan’s Home Service as a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleet. - Village Catering
-
Located in New Boston, Ohio, Village Catering logs approximately 1 million miles per year providing Meals on Wheels service in southeastern and southern Ohio. Village Catering is constantly on the move, providing 800 meals a day, six days a week to feed homebound and disabled residents throughout the region. Sixteen of their 20 delivery vehicles have been converted to run on dedicated propane systems—displacing large volumes of petroleum and providing cleaner emissions for the residents they serve. Based on these efforts, Clean Fuels Ohio is proud to certify Village Catering as a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleet. - Wood County District Public Library
-
Serving the city of Bowling Green and surrounding areas, the Wood County District Public Library provides access to literature, information and experiences that enrich the community. One of the main vehicles the Library uses to accomplish this mission is a rolling Bookmobile which delivers library materials to students and the community at large. While only operating a small fleet of vehicles, the Library has had the vision to ensure that its Bookmobile runs on dedicated compressed natural gas power. Fueled overnight with a small refueling system at the library facilities, the Wood County Library’s CNG Bookmobile serves as a model to the community, not only sharing ideas and information but helping to improve energy security and air quality as well. Based on these efforts, Clean Fuels Ohio is proud to certify the Wood County Public Library as a Five-Star Ohio Green Fleet.
