- Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities
-
The mission of the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities (FCBDD) is: “Helping people to live learn and work in our community.” To facilitate this mission, FCBDD operates a fleet of almost 200 diesel powered school buses. Recognizing the importance of the health of our community and those they serve, FCBDD has actively sought to improve the environmental performance of its fleet.
Beginning in 2004, the FCBDD with the support of CFO and the Franklin County Commissioners, switched to a B20 biodiesel fuel blend. In 2006 FCBDD became the first user in central Ohio of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and FCBDD installed ultra efficient diesel particulate filters on 80 of their school buses using the Toyota Clean School Bus for Kids grant. Further collaboration between CFO and FCBDD resulted in the implementation of anti-idling policy, purchase and installation of anti-idling signs at FCBDD facilities and strategies such as engine block heaters to further reduce engine idling. Reduced idling reduces pollutants, saves fuel, saves money, and is good for everyone.

Today all scheduled route buses travel with emission control devices, making FCBDD’s fleet among the cleanest of diesel school bus fleets. In 2011, FCBDD will take delivery of its first propane powered school bus, continuing its regional leadership in clean emission vehicles and alternative fuels.
Clean Fuels Ohio applauds these efforts and is proud to certify the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities as a Three-Star Ohio Green Fleet.
