The need for substantial investment in America’s alternative energy future is vital to both our nation’s environmental health and economic recovery. At all levels of government and throughout our national discourse increasing recognition of this fact is creating unparalleled opportunities to advance the use of cleaner, more efficient transportation technologies and non-petroleum domestic fuels. These solutions not only help to improve air quality and reduce climate change, they also encourage the fundamental shift to energy independence that will build a foundation for our nation’s future economic prosperity.

Post Election Wrap-up

Nov. 5, 2010

This year’s election will drastically change the look of the Ohio Legislature. There will be about 30 new members in the Ohio House, four in the Ohio Senate, and a new Executive Administration when the 129th General Assembly convenes next year. Leaders in the House and Senate do not seem very likely to hold a busy lame duck session. So, our focus for the remainder of 2010 is educating the new members and administration on Clean Fuels Ohio and our mission and identifying allies for our policy agenda. We will be sending each member a list of the partners and projects Clean Fuels Ohio has been involved with in their district, along with information on each of the alternative fuels, comparisons of Ohio to other states, basic organizational information and membership information. Ohio’s Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) Readiness Plan has great momentum heading into 2011. I have been working on a taskforce that is writing this plan, and we convened a statewide stakeholders meeting to discuss the effects PEV deployment will have on Ohio at the end of October and are scheduling meetings for November and December. Representatives from groups such as the Ohio Public Utilities Commission, utility companies, universities, local governments, and more came to learn more about electric vehicles and start the conversations on what changes Ohio will have to make.
