The economic case for curbing diesel fuel consumption is solid. We all felt the pain when tight oil markets pushed diesel fuel prices to record-high levels in 2008. According to industry experts, we should expect steadily rising prices and periodic price spikes for traditional diesel fuel as supply streams struggle to keep pace with increasing global demand. Even with aggressive exploration and development of domestic oil supplies, an increasing percentage of our oil will have to come from unstable regimes in the Middle East and Africa. The bottom line is that we should plan on oil prices staying high and rising.
Education is critical for fleets looking to develop a comprehensive Green Fleet Management plan. The first and important step towards getting that information is enrolling in Clean Fuels Ohio’s Ohio Green Fleets program.
The Ohio Green Fleets program is designed to significantly improve the environmental performance and fuel efficiency of public and private fleets. The program consists of three core components:
- Direct consultation with fleet managers to develop a Green Fleet management plan tailored to specific organizational needs.
- Hands-on support and assistance with implementation, including assistance in seeking grant funding to reduce implementation costs.
- Recognition of environmental leaders through a Five-Star rating system that scores fleets based on measurable reductions in vehicle emissions and improvements in efficiency.
Clean Fuels Ohio is fuel and technology-neutral, working with fleets on an individual basis to help determine the strategy, or combination of strategies, that best meets organizational and environmental goals.
Enrolling in Ohio Green Fleets is easy; all it takes is filling out the simple form. Completion of the enrollment form gives fleets access to Clean Fuels Ohio’s related transportation grant efforts and allows for the quantification of overall fleet improvements.
