Fleets that demonstrate leadership in environmental performance and efficiency deserve to be publicly recognized. The Ohio Green Fleets program is designed to provide such recognition. Fleets that enroll in the program are objectively scored using US EPA tools and a system that assigns points for reductions in vehicle emissions, petroleum use, and overall fuel efficiency. US EPA tools are used to ensure scientifically accurate emissions data and the scoring system was developed by a committee of professionals representing public and private fleets of varying sizes. The following table demonstrates the categories tracked by the Ohio Green Fleets scoring system and the points assigned to an organization per overall fleet percent reduction in each category.
As organizations take substantial steps toward sustainable fleet operations they receive an Ohio Green Fleet score and the opportunity to earn recognition through a Five-Star rating system. Upon reaching certain scoring thresholds, organizations are designated as One-Star (40pts), Three-Star (80pts), or Five-Star (120pts) Ohio Green Fleets. Once designated, fleets can proudly display their status with the official Ohio Green Fleets logo. Though it’s easy for any organization to claim they are “green,” the Ohio Green Fleets program and logo is a recognizable, measurable, and reputable way for organizations to prove it. In fact, five fleets designated as Ohio Green Fleets in the 2009 program year have also been recognized by the national 100 Best Fleets program as among the top 40 greenest government fleets in North America.
Designated organizations can display the Ohio Green Fleets logo and status in any way they choose, branding everything from vehicles to publications to websites.
