Municipal & Vocational: Peer Fleet Experiences (1 hr 15 min)

Municipal and vocational fleets have much in common. In both cases, vehicles are specified based on unique service requirements. Whether advanced or conventional, vehicles and the fuels they use must perform with 100% reliability in their required service function. Often, these applications are well-suited to advanced fuels and vehicle technologies, but in order to be successful, fleets must understand unique drive and duty cycles, maintenance requirements, and plan carefully for the refueling or recharging infrastructure needed. Like other types of fleets, costs must be contained, and management must respond to increasing demands for environmental sustainability. In this session, you will hear from fleet leaders about how they rose to these challenges in order to successfully implement a variety of advanced fuels and vehicle choices.

Data Analytics & Connectivity: Technologies & Peer Fleet Experiences (1 hr 15 min)

Advancements in technologies for data capture and connectivity have impacted the fleet industry along with so many other parts of our economy and society. Managers and operators have never seen access to information and the potential for game-changing insights. But for many, it’s information overload. Administrators need strategies designed around the unique needs of their fleet so they can pinpoint specific data points, gather useful information, and work with their teams on the kinds of analyses that will enable them to achieve their goals – including greater vehicle efficiency, pinpointing maintenance needs, identifying training needs, downsizing fleet size if possible, achieving sustainability goals, or others. This session will include a combination of industry expert in the growing field of fleet analytics as well as peer fleets who have been able to apply tools and information strategically to achieve powerful results.

The logistics industry is undergoing tremendous evolution driven by changes in vehicle technologies, data and connectivity, and fuel choice. These changes are impacting every segment of the industry, but especially yard handling equipment, local and regional freight and last mile delivery. New technologies are presenting opportunities for third-party logistics providers and managers to gain competitive advantage based on how technologies can drive down costs, and the growing imperative to drive environmental sustainability into the logistics chain for shippers. For decades, how people got where they needed to go didn’t change much. Today, everything is changing. We see so many technology and fuel choices for yellow school buses, traditional transit buses, and a variety of passenger shuttle operations. New types of services, such as transportation network companies, car sharing, bikes and other modes are gaining traction. How are innovators behind these new options approaching overall issues of sustainability and technology and fuel choices? What options fit best with various types of services and how will these scenarios change in the future. This session will give you an opportunity to hear from a range of service providers about choices they’ve made, why they made them, how they implemented various solutions and what they’ve learned in the process.
