Drive Electric Ohio staff and volunteers enjoyed a bright, sunny day of talking to people about electric vehicles (EVs) at the Smart Columbus Experience Center Grand Opening and Smart Mobility Block Party on June 30. More than a dozen organizations and businesses showcased various advanced mobility options, from electric bikes to smart buses.
Mayor Ginther and other local leaders led the grand opening, demonstrating the commitment at the highest levels to making Ohio a leader in transportation innovation. The event had a great energy, both figuratively (music and free food!) and literally (the Grand Opening was entirely solar-powered).
Over 100 people participated in an electric vehicle ride-and-drive at the event, with many taking further steps to explore purchasing an EV. Now that the Experience Center is open, visitors can test drive one of six electric vehicles from the Smart Columbus fleet any day of the week, including a BMW i3, a Chevrolet Bolt, a Honda Clarity, a Mercedes-Benz GLE 55e, a Nissan LEAF, and a Toyota Prius Prime. Beyond just electric vehicles, the Experience Center features a 3,000-foot showroom where visitors will have the opportunity to experience hands-on demonstrations of new mobility technologies.
